September 16th, 2020

On September 9, the 54th Capital do Móvel received a visit from the Prime Minister, António Costa, and the Minister of State for the Economy and Digital Transition, Pedro Siza Vieira, accompanied by the President of the Board and the Executive Director General of the Paços de Ferreira Business Association, Rui Carneiro and Filipa Belo, and Bruno Fernandes, who is responsible for organizing the event. The event was also attended that day by the deputy mayor of Paços de Ferreira, Paulo Ferreira, among other entities who were able to accompany the delegation, interact and talk about the projects and challenges for the future with the entrepreneurs and exhibitors represented.

The Prime Minister’s delegation visited the exhibitors, establishing a dialog with all of them that would allow them to understand the determination of all those who maintain and fight for their activity. Throughout the visit and in speeches, the importance of entrepreneurs and workers in the furniture industry for the district of Porto and for the country as a whole was emphasized, and several of those present reiterated their gratitude.

On the day of the event, the Chairman of the Board, Rui Carneiro, began by thanking everyone present, and then addressed the entrepreneurs, “who, guided by their enormous capacity for resilience, have never let their arms down and are once again proving their ability to respond and adapt in the face of adversity,” adding that this was a “complete demonstration of confidence in the recovery of our country, and it is to the credit of our entrepreneurs!”

Rui Carneiro also stressed that “the government’s support for companies in developing their export activity is crucial, with additional measures that allow them to continue the internationalization process.” He ended his speech by saying that he was pleased to give his “last speech as President of the Paços de Ferreira Business Association, and I’m proud to have your excellency present (addressing Prime Minister António Costa) at this moment. (…) a special thank you to our entrepreneurs for all the work they’ve done together and for all the support over 11 years of work.”
